Reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell will miss his next start after breaking a toe while getting out of the shower.
The Tampa Bay Rays put their ace left-hander on the injured list Tuesday but are hopeful he’ll be able to rejoin the rotation for a start on April 24.
Snell said he was attempting to move a decorative stand in his bathroom and didn’t realize that a piece of granite on the stand wasn’t firmly attached.
“It’s like a three-piece set and this pole that comes up like 2 1/2, 3 feet,” he told reporters. “Went to move it, I lifted it up and it wasn’t glued to the pole and the pole came crushing down.”
The piece of granite fell on his right foot and broke his fourth toe.
Snell, 26, is 2-1 with a 2.16 ERA in four starts this season.
