EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern men’s basketball (6-3) is set to host cross-town foe DePaul (5-1) on Saturday, December 8, in the new Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m.
The Wildcats seek redemption this weekend after falling short against No. 5 Michigan in a thrilling, 62-60 setback Tuesday night, in which Northwestern closed a 15-point deficit with an explosive second half. Derek Pardon led the team in scoring with 20 points, Vic Law added 19 points, and Ryan Taylor put up nine points.
For Pardon, he dropped 20-plus points in back-to-back games for the first time in his Northwestern career. In his last five games, he is averaging 16.6 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game, in addition to shooting 75 percent from the floor (33-for-44). Eighteen of his 37 rebounds in the stretch have been of the offensive variety.
Northwestern faced DePaul last season at Wintrust Arena in Chicago and pulled out a close 62-60 win against the Blue Demons. The Wildcats have won five out of the last seven meetings against DePaul — including three-straight wins.
DePaul has started the season with a 5-1 record, coming off a 65-60 win against Florida A&M. Returning seniors Eli Cain and Max Strus have continued their dominance this season as the Blue Demons’ top scorers. DePaul has also welcomed a total of nine new members, including transfer Femi Olujobi, who has scored in double-digits in the past two games.
