NU Sports – Wildcats Primed To Tee Off 2018 NCAA Championships Friday

STILLWATER, Ok. – The Northwestern Wildcats are back in college golf’s premier event for the sixth straight year, set to tee off the 2018 NCAA Women’s Golf Championships on Friday afternoon at Karsten Creek Golf Course (Par-72; 6,328 yards).

Head coach Emily Fletcher and assistant Beth Miller field a lineup with four NCAA Championships veterans, and one newcomer that led the way to qualification at last week’s Madison Regional.  
While action will begin in Stillwater at 7:30 a.m. CT on Friday, as one of the Top-12 ranked teams in the field Northwestern will begin its Championships in the afternoon. The ‘Cats will be paired with the reigning NCAA champion Arizona State Sun Devils and the Florida Gators, set to begin on No. 1 at 1:21 p.m. CT. Senior Sarah Cho will get things started for Northwestern, followed in nine-minute increments by sophomore Brooke Riley, junior Janet Mao, junior Stephanie Lau and senior Hannah Kim. All four returners (Cho, Kim, Lau, Mao) finished in the Top-24 of the stroke play portion of last year’s NCAA Championships.

The Wildcats earned their spot in Stillwater with a Top-6 finish at last week’s Madison Regional, led by Riley who fired a blistering final round 66 to record a Top-4 finish in her NCAA postseason debut.
Conditions are hot and breezy at Karsten Creek, with temperatures expected to reach into the high 80’s during Friday’s opening round.

Northwestern will also be paired with the Gators and Sun Devils for Saturday’s second round, with morning tee times.

The Wildcats finished atop the field in the stroke play portion of the 2017 NCAA Championships, earning the No. 1 match play seed and an eventual runner-up result in front of a raucous Chicagoland crowd at Rich Harvest Farms. Northwestern has earned the program’s best-ever result at five consecutive Championships.
