NU Sports – Lasota, Pinzone Garner Weekly Big Ten Honors

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern junior attack Selena Lasota and first-year midfielder Taylor Pinzone have been named the Big Ten Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

After missing the final 17 games of last season due to injury, Lasota returned to action last weekend and immediately returned to form with six goals, three assists, three ground balls and seven draw controls. She needed just two shots to score a pair of goals in the Wildcats’ 18-7 win over Canisius in the season opener before tallying seven points on four goals and a career-high three assists in a 21-2 romp of Detroit Mercy.

Lasota ranks second in the country in points (9), third in goals (6) and fifth in assists (3).

Pinzone led an impressive showing by the NU first-year class, finishing the weekend with three goals and one assist. She had a pair of points in both games, scoring her first career goal and recording her first career in assist versus the Golden Griffins before notching her first career multi-goal game in the win over the Titans.

Northwestern is currently ranked No. 9 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and No. 11 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll. The Wildcats will host on No. 19 Colorado (1-1) at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m.
