Dustin Fowler of A’s gets first MLB hit in return from gruesome injury

CLOSEDustin Fowler Of A's Gets First MLB Hit In Return From Gruesome Injury

SportsPulse: Are the New York Yankees baseball’s best team? Are the recent no-hitters an anomaly? What’s wrong with the Los Angeles Dodgers? USA TODAY Sports’ Jorge Ortiz breaks it all down.

Last season, Dustin Fowler was one of the heartbreaking stories in baseball when he suffered a gruesome, season-ending injury by colliding into a wall in foul territory during his New York Yankees debut on June 30. A year later, he is making personal history against the Bronx Bombers.

Fowler singled Friday in his first game against the Yankees in an Oakland A’s uniform, giving him his first ever major-league hit. Ironically enough, it came off of Sonny Gray.

The young outfielder was traded for Gray a month later, but he fought back to make Oakland’s big club as he was called up from the minors earlier this week. He later had his first at-bat Wednesday, restarting what should be a promising career for the 23-year-old.

The A’s went on to win the game, 10-5.
