The Pride of Benue striker has explained what motivated him and his teammates never to concede a defeat to the Flying Antelopes until the end
Lobi Stars’ Austin Ogunye has stressed that it was their firm belief that they could stretch their unbeaten record against Enugu Rangers to five matches and that helped them grab a last minute goal at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu on Wednesday.
The Pride of Benue have won this fixture in the last two years and even had a sensational double win over the Flying Antelopes last season.
During the match, Godwin Aguda got the 2018 Federation Cup champions into the lead from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute but a last gasp goal from Solomon Kwambe saved Lobi Stars blushes and ensured that the tie ended at 1-1.
Ogunye noted that they knew that they could still pick a valuable point in the game.
“It was a tough game for us because Enugu Rangers came into it with so much confidence that they could continue with their impressive home record,” Ogunye told GOAL.

“We knew that we have not lost to Enugu Rangers in the last two games we have played in Enugu and we wanted to extend that record. It was the reason why we came all out and when they took the lead, we were still very calm knowing that we would have our own chance.
“It was because we never stopped believing that made us get the equaliser. The head coach (Solomon Ogbeide) told us before the match that we must try everything possible to protect our unbeaten record against Rangers since 2017 and we were happy we succeeded.”
The crucial away point ensured that Lobi Stars consolidated on their fourth spot in the NPFL Group A with 22 points from 15 games. They could leapfrog Enyimba if they beat the People’s Elephant in Makurdi this weekend.
