The interim manager continued his flying start with a dominant win against Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League on Wednesday
Let the hype train roll on for Santiago Solari, who has righted the ship for Real Madird and continued his flying start as interim manager for Los Blancos with a 5-0 Champions League victory over Viktoria Plzen on Wednesday.
After kicking off his tenure with a 4-0 win over Melilla in the Copa del Rey, Solari then saw his side to a 2-0 victory over Valladolid in league play before breezing past Plzen.
Interestingly, the caretaker boss’ opening run is among the best in the club’s history.
In fact, not since Luis Carniglia in 1957 has a Madrid manager started with three straight clean sheets in three straight wins.

Sure, the competition hasn’t been of the highest order in Solari’s limited time with the club, but that’s no reason to write off the performances from his charges.
In fact, the 5-0 win for Madrid over Plzen is the biggest ever by a Spanish side away to a Czech team in European competition.
He hasn’t done it all by himself, of course.
Karim Benzema has been in fine form under his new boss, scoring three times in three outings, netting his 200th Champions League goal on Wednesday and adding his 201st for good measure.
In addition, youngster Vinicius Junior is turning heads with his sterling showings for the club.

The teenager netted the winner against Valladolid and added an assist in Wednesday’s match, becoming just the second player born after the year 2000 to register an assist the Champions League behind Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.
Madird can extend their run of good form against Celta Vigo on Sunday and will be hoping the upcoming international break doesn’t break their stride.
