Sri Lanka and England will have to wait a bit longer to open their Women’s World T20 campaign as their clash on November 11 ended without a ball being bowled or even the toss being held – against England – owing to thunderstorms in St. Lucia. Both teams were awarded a point each, following the abandonment.
The region received rain throughout the previous night, putting the chance of the game happening under big threat. Such was the severity of the downpour that the umpires called it off 10 minutes before the scheduled start of play (04:00 PM Local time).
Gros Islet in St. Lucia is scheduled to host nine games – including England’s next on Monday – amidst reports that matches could be moved out owing to fears of repeated wash outs.
