Loughborough Lightning vs Lancashire Thunder

Loughborough Lightning made short work of the 137-run chase against Lancashire Thunder as Rachael Haynes and Amy Ellen Jones put together an emphatic 110-run stand for the second wicket to secure a nine-wicket win on Saturday (August 11). The victory – their sixth of the season – has now ensured their passage through to the finals day of the third edition of the Women’s Super League.

Opting to bat first, Thunder got off to a steady start with all their top three batters getting off to starts. However, that is where it all ended as Nicole Bolton failed to kick on beyond her contribution of 19, and Georgie Boyce and Amy Satterthwaite fell after their scores of 38 and 47. From there, it all went downhill. In the last five overs, Thunder could only manage 36 runs to finish on 136 for 7.

Chasing 137 to win, Sophie Devine fell in the fourth over after her quickfire 12-ball 22 but Haynes and Elen Jones got together to ensure there were no more hiccups in their pursuit, winning the game with over five overs to spare.

Brief Scores: Lancashire Thunder 136/7 in 20 overs (Amy Satterthwaite 47; Sophie Devine 2-22) lost to Loughborough Lightning 137/1 in 14.3 overs (Amy Ellen Jones 66*, Rachael Haynes 40*) by nine wickets

Western Storm vs Southern Vipers

A washout in this fixture after just 8.5 overs of play confirmed Western Storm’s advancement to the finals day, alongside table-toppers Loughborough Lightning.

The August 15th clash between Lightning and Storm could have a bearing on how the table looks at the league stage as only three points separate the top-two sides at the moment.

Brief Scores: Southern Vipers 62/2 in 8.5 overs (Danielle Wyatt 27, Suzie Bates 26*; Danielle Gibson 1-8, Freya Davies 1-12) vs Western Storm.
