KL Rahul and Abhimanyu Easwaran put up a solid 178-run stand for the opening wicket to claim the honours on the first day of the second unofficial Test between India A and England Lions in Mysore.

Unlike last game where India A chose to bowl, the home team decided to have a crack with the bat and the decision to do so paid rich dividends as the opening duo of Rahul and Easwaran displayed great composure to hand England Lions back-to-back wicketless sessions whilst scoring at a decent pace.

Rahul, who missed out on a ton in the previous game, yet again departed in the eighties but his partner Easwaran made the most of the start and notched up his 11th first-class ton, his fourth in last six games. The double-centurion in the previous game, Priyank Panchal, batting at three, scored briskly and recorded his 21st first-class fifty, but the 28-year old became the second wicket to fall in the final hour of play after Easwaran got out for 117.

Lancashire’s Tom Bailey and Somerset’s Dominic Bess had long spells with the ball, and were duly rewarded for their hard work as the pair bagged the wickets of Panchal and Easwaran respectively. The most impressive English bowler on the tour – Zak Chappell – yet again ticked the wickets column (Rahul) and remained the most economical bowler of the day.

Brief scores: India A 282/3 in 84.5 overs (Abhimanyu Easwaran 117, KL Rahul 81; Zak Chappell 1-32) vs England Lions.
