Sydney Sixers notched up their first win of Big Bash League, 2017-18, with a thrilling last-ball win over Sydney Thunder.

Put in to bat first, Thunder managed a respectable total thanks to useful contributions from James Vince (34) and Chris Green (49). The latter’s 27-ball knock was instrumental in giving his team something to bowl at.

And it was Green again with the ball that kept Thunder in the game right until the last ball. Giving no boundaries in the death overs, Green bowled two tight overs that trickled down to two needed by Sixers off the last ball.

Moises Henriques managed to get it down to long on and sprinted back for the second to get Sixers over the line. An unbeaten 66 from opener Daniel Hughes also played a big part in the Sixers chase. With brisk knocks from the top order, the Sixers were always in the chase but Green’s tight overs towards the end nearly took the game away but they managed to see past it.

Brief Scores: Sydney Thunder 156/6 in 20 overs (Chris Green 49, James Vince 34; Moises Henriques 2/25) lost to Sydney Sixers 157/2 in 20 overs (Daniel Hughes 66*, Joe Denly 43) by eight wickets
