After shutting out Notre Dame, 2-0, on April 11, the Wildcats dropped three contests at Indiana over the weekend. Jack Claeys posted a .400 clip at the plate versus the Hoosiers with a .500 slugging percentage. The senior catcher drove in a pair of runs in the series. Jack Dunn tallied four knocks on the weekend and scored three runs, while driving in one.
Milwaukee (11-18) enters the game against Northwestern after having its weekend series versus UIC canceled due to inclement weather. The Panthers are 0-4 against Big Ten opponents this season, having dropped contests to Ohio State, Minnesota and Illinois.
Northwestern and Milwaukee met at Miller Park last season and the Wildcats came out with a 6-4 victory. Josh Davis pitched 5.0 scoreless innings and struck out a career-high six batters. Leo Kaplan went 2-for-4 in the contest with a home run and two runs scored, while Dunn and Claeys also drove in runs.
Claeys currently leads the club with a .281 batting average and .494 slugging percentage, while driving in a team-high 19 runs this season. Dunn and Alex Erro each have 30 hits and have swiped 13 and 12 bases, respectively.
Mike Ferri leads Milwaukee with a .351 clip and owns a .464 slugging percentage. Trevor Schwecke has a team-best 36 hits for a .305 batting average.
LHP Matt Gannon will make his third start of the season on Tuesday. In his last start, Gannon threw 3.0 scoreless innings at Notre Dame (April 11) and only allowed three hits, while fanning three. Gannon has struck out 12 batters in 12.1 innings this season.
Following the game against Milwaukee, Northwestern will host Michigan State in a three-game set at Miller Park. Game one of the series is set for 3:30 p.m. CT on Friday, April 20. Big Ten Network will broadcast the action.
