He will also be joining former Wildcat golfer Matt Fitzpatrick at the U.S. Open, who is making his fourth appearance (third as a professional). Fitzpatrick will tee off at 7:13 a.m. CT off the first tee for the first round and is paired with Bryson DeChambeau and Matt Kuchar. His tee time is 12:58 p.m. CT (10th tee) for the second round.
Lumsden will tee off the first round at 1:20 p.m. CT off of the first tee and is paired with Rikuya Hoshino and James Morrison. He will go at 7:35 a.m. CT in the second round off the 10th tee.
He is the fourth Wildcat golfer to play the U.S. Open as an amateur since at least 1990, joining Fitzpatrick, Dillon Dougherty (2006), and Erik Ciotti (1999). He is the ninth NU golfer to play in the event in the last 20 years.
The London, England, native was the only amateur to advance from the packed Columbus sectional qualifier and joins 19 other amateurs in the 156-player field. The 20-amateur total is the most for the U.S. Open since 1962 at Oakmont and five shy of the record set in 1959.
Lumsden is coming off a tremendous season for the Wildcats with a remarkable finish, carding eight of his last 12 rounds at or under par. The First Team All-Big Ten winner holds the third-best career scoring average in program history with one season remaining, trailing only soon-to-be graduate Dylan Wu and former World No. 1 Luke Donald.
