Joe Root is set to slot into his Test batting position of four on Sunday as the one-day series against Australia begins in Melbourne.

The 27-year-old has recovered fully from the sickness bug and dehydration that terminated his final-day involvement in the Ashes last week.

And with England set to recall Alex Hales at No 3, behind an opening pair of Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow, Root will come in next ahead of captain Eoin Morgan and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler.

England will come against a host of familiar foes in the five-match Gillette Series, including Steve Smith, who’s bat loomed large over the Ashes, contributing a hefty 687 runs.
