There’s just over 15 minutes to go until kick off, so let’s reveal how the two teams line up…

After a remarkable run from Russia, they faced Spain once again in the Semi-Finals of the tournament. It was yet another comfortable victory for La Roja, however, as they secured their place in the final with a 3-0 victory.

This is the first time the two sides have met since the European Championships in 2008, where Spain eventually went on to win the tournament. A David Villa hat-trick secured a 4-1 victory against tonight’s hosts, but Russia still managed to come second in Group D to secure a place in the knockout stages.

After securing their place in Russia via an unbeaten qualifying campaign, which included an impressive 3-0 victory over Italy, Julen Lopetegui’s Spanish side will enter the World Cup as one of the favourites for the tournament. It was always going to be difficult to follow three consecutive major trophy wins as La Roja experienced early exits from tournaments in 2014 and 2016, but they appear to be back to their best. A 5-0 victory over Costa Rica on the weekend made it 15 matches unbeaten for the manager who was appointed in July 2016.

As the countdown to the World Cup continues, excitement is building in Russia as they prepare to host the prestigious tournament in 2018. Tonight’s friendly offers a stern test for Stanislav Cherchesov’s men, whilst providing them with an indication of how far they could potentially progress next summer by playing against a high-quality Spanish side. They nearly drew against Argentina on Saturday, but a late Sergio Aguero goal secured a 1-0 victory for Jorge Sampaoli’s team.

The home side will hope to improve after their 1-0 defeat against Argentina in Moscow, whilst Spain will aim to carry on their fine form after an impressive 5-0 victory over Costa Rica on Saturday.
