England v Brazil Live Commentary & Result, 14/11/2017, Friendlies

After the unpopular and unsuccessful Dunga made way last June, Brazil ran riot in their World Cup qualifying group and became the first side – bar hosts Russia – to book their place in the tournament. They’re once again playing with flair and fluidity, but Tite has brought in much-needed defensive solidity. Japan were the latest side to fall to the Selecao, who will be looking to continue their winning run here tonight.

Brazil looked to be in something of a crisis when they were knocked out in the group stages of the Copa America not long after the 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Germany in their home World Cup, but they’re now back at their best thanks to Tite. The Selecao manager has got his side firing on all cylinders, and they head into tonight’s clash having lost just one of their last 16 games.

England qualified for next summer’s tournament comfortably enough and avoided losing any of their 10 games, but they also failed to dazzle during that period. That has continued to be the case under Gareth Southgate, but the Three Lions boss will no doubt have been pleased with what he saw on Friday evening. Another positive display tonight would ensure England are able to end 2017 on a high.

England head into tonight’s game feeling uncharacteristically confident. A young and relatively untested side impressed in a goalless draw against reigning world champions Germany four days ago, giving fans reasons to be hopeful heading into next year’s World Cup in Russia. However, it remains to be seen whether they can pull off a similar performance against a revitalised and hungry Brazil team.

Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s international friendly between England and Brazil at Wembley.
