Constant shower breaks on third day has all but ensured that the second unofficial Test between India A and South Africa A will end in a tame draw. India A could bowl only 32.4 overs in which South Africa A added 75 runs but also lost four wickets, to end with 294 for 7, still trailing India’s 345 by 51 runs.

The entire first session was lost to persistent drizzle, forcing an early lunch to be taken. Once they came out post the big delay, Ankit Rajpoot dismissed Rassie van der Dussen early. The Uttar Pradesh pacer then denied Rudi Second a half-century, having him caught by Prithvi Shaw at midwicket.

When Mohammad Siraj took a sharp catch to dismiss Dwaine Pretorious for 10 and give Jayant Yadav his first wicket, SA A were down to 254 for 6. Senuran Muthuswamy and captain Dane Piedt plotted a recovery by batting out the next 11 overs for a 40-run stand. Piedt’s dismissal – cleaned up by Siraj – came at the stroke of Tea, after which rain returned to deny any further cricket.

Brief scores: India A 345 (Hanuma Vihari 148, Ankit Bawne 80; Duanne Olivier 6-63) lead South Africa A 294/7 (Zubayr Hamza 93, Sarel Erwee 58; Mohammad Siraj 2-58, Ankit Rajpoot 2-42) by 51 runs.
